Senator NEEDHAM - The party to which I belong has always been solicitous for the welfare of all sections of the community. If Senator Reid casts his memory back to the days when he was a member of the Labour party, he will recall that it has done very much indeed for our primary producers. It is quite conceivable that in the appointment of persons to the commission, the Government may secure experts in finance, but with no knowledge of land-settlement conditions ; and since the bulk of the loan money will be expended on works calculated to promote land settlement, it is essential that at least one member of the commission should have an intimate knowledge of land problems. I trust that the committee will accept the amendment.
