Senator DUNCAN (NEW SOUTH WALES) asked the Minister representing the Minister for Trade and Customs, upon notice -

1.   Is the statement of the Minister for Trade and Customs, reported in the press as having been made at a meeting in Sydney, to the effect that the proposed new tax upon motors, petrol, tires, &c, may be avoided by motorists using Australian production, correct?

2.   If so, and in the event of such advice being generally adopted, will the minister say where the funds to be allocated under the Main Roads Development Act are to be derived from ?
