Senator PAYNE (Tasmania) .- I do not think that the Minister has adopted the right course in connexion with this item. He has brought in what is practically a new item. Item 105 has been before us for over a week, and we are prepared to go on with it. But we have not had an opportunity to consider the Minister's request.

Senator Crawford - It merely adds the words " artificial silk, or containing artificial silk."

Senator Drake-Brockman - In the original act the term " silk " includes artificial silk. The Minister's amendment is to make the position clearer.

Senator Crawford - There is no intention to increase the duty. The alteration merely clarifies the position.

Item postponed.
