Senator E D MILLEN (NEW SOUTH WALES) - The answers are -

1.   The engagement of employees is, except during the first fourteen days, on a weekly basis. The first fourteen days is on a daily basis. An employee working on a weekly basis who absents himself from work is not entitled to pay for the period of absence unless he satisfies the employer or the Board of Reference that the absence was for justifiable cause.

2.   Travelling time is payable only in respect of time occupied in proceeding between the usual place of work and the actual place of work, or between a fixedstarting point and the place of work. Starting points are fixed by agreement, or, in default of agreement, by the Board of Reference. 3 and 4. I am not aware.

5.   No application has been made to cancel the award by either the mill-owners or the employees, but a new dispute has been filed by the union, and will be heard in due course.

6.   If the honorable senator can indicate any way in which the Commonwealth Government can assist the industry it will receive full consideration.
