Senator ELLIOTT (VICTORIA) asked the Minister representing the Prime Minister, upon notice -

1.   Have the Government yet decided . upon the policy it is to follow regarding the expropriated German properties in New Guinea, and when may a statement in regard thereto be expected to bo made?

2.   Is it a fact that, some months ago, a party of returned soldiers applied for permission to proceed to New Guinea to search for minerals, timber, &c, and that such application was refused on the ground that, until the Government's policy was defined, no one would be allowed to prospect there?

3.   Is it a fact that, notwithstanding this refusal, a certain person or persons was or were allowed to proceed to New Guinea for such purpose, and a company, called theRabaul ProspectingCompany Limited, has been formed in "Victoria to exploit the discoveries alleged to have been made?

4.   If so, \vhywas this discrimination made against the1 returned soldiers referred to?
