Senator PEARCE (Western AustraliaMinister for Defence) . - I ask the Committee to reject the request. There is not too much protection afforded by the schedule as it stands. The assembling of parts of motors is a substantial Australian industry.

Request (by Senator Pratten) proposed -

That the House of Representatives be requested to make the duty, sub-item (d), 46, British, ad val., 2½ per cent.
