Senator PAYNE (Tasmania) .- 1 have given notice of my intention to submit a request in connexion with subitem h, but, in view of the request just agreed to, and in order to maintain the proper proportion, I must make an alteration of the duties as I originally intended to submit them. I think that, in the circumstances, the duty in the British preferential column should remain as it stands. I move -

That the House of Representatives be requested to make the duty, sub-item (h), per 100 super. feet, intermediate, 6s. ; general, 7s.

It is necessary that these duties should be increased to preserve the proportional increase sin the case of timber of these small sizes.

Senator Pearce - I am prepared to agree to that request.

Request agreed to.
