Senator SENIOR (South Australia) . - I think these duties should be made to synchronize. Carbonate and bicarbonate of soda, bleaching powder, and chlorine are all extracts from salt. When the chlorine is taken out, the soda crystal and soda ash are left, the latter being used in the manufacture of glass.


Senator E D MILLEN (NEW SOUTH WALES) - That treatment is being carried out now, whereas in regard to the other sub-item preparations are only being made for treatment.


Senator SENIOR - In any case, the duties, I say, ought to be made to synchronize in order to encourage the progressive manufacture of these products from the one element.
