Senator GARDINER asked the Minister representing the Treasurer, upon notice -

1.   In the Treasurer's (Sir Joseph Cook's) speech, on 20th July, 1921, did he say "We have had a windfall during the year by the transfer of the Notes Branch to the Commonwealth Bank, which gave us £7,780,524"?

2.   What were these profits accumulated from?

3.   Were they the profits accruing from investments of Government notes in loans?

4.   Willthe Leader of the Senate give any information at his disposal as to the actual origin of this sum of money?

5.   Was the amount paid into the general revenue ?

6.   If so; why was it not used instead of floating the present "Diggers' Loan"?
