Senator E D MILLEN (NEW SOUTH WALES) (Minister for Repatriation) . - If the request is agreed to, it will create an inconsistency, in view of what the Committee has previously decided upon.

Senator Drake-Brockman - But the whole Tariff is full of such inconsistencies.

Senator E D MILLEN (NEW SOUTH WALES) - That is not a strong argument. In this instance it is proposed that the British Tariff upon " Machines n.e.i." shall be reduced from 271/2 to 221/2 per cent. In item 176, however, the Committee decided that the ad valorem rates upon " Machines and machinery n.e.i." should remain at 271/2 per cent. I appeal to honorable senators to bring common sense to bear.
