Senator RUSSELL (Victoria) (VicePresident of the Executive Council) . - The smaller -classes of ironand steel tubes and pipes are at present free under the British preferential Tariff, but on and after 1st January next they will be dutiable at 27½ per cent. British, 35 per cent, intermediate, and 40 per cent. general. I understand that some big English firms have promised in the meantime to establish the industry here. That will be advantageous to Australia. These duties will not come into operation until the works are established here.

Senator Lynch -Then clause 11 of the Bill willapply to these as well as to the ordinary deferred duties?

Senator RUSSELL - Yes.
