Senator LYNCH (Western Australia) . - I desire to ask the Minister whether we have in this item an admission for practically the first time that the material to which it relates is. not being made in" Australia, and that we are not likely to make it. Here is a rare chance to put a tax: on a section of the community which is already well taxed. I refer to those in the interior who are cutting chaff. If steel of the character covered by this item is. being made in Australia, I want to see the industry protected. It is not my desire that imports of this description shall be free if there is any reasonable prospect of the material being made here.
