Senator VARDON (South Australia) . - I hope the Committee will sup- port the duties proposed in the schedule. Some honorable senators are prepared to impose duties on agricultural implements, pianos, and such things, but they are not equally disposed to protect the primary producer. During the war this article was extremely difficult to obtain, and local manufacturers came to our aid by supplying an article which, I am informed, is quite as good as Horlick's malted milk. I think we should encourage our primary producers, and should support the duties proposed by . the Government on this article, the manufacture of which in Australia gives considerable work to other branches of industry.
