Senator E D MILLEN (NEW SOUTH WALES) - The answers are -

1.   The recruiting of native labour has not been prohibited, but regulations are in process of preparation to eliminate possibilities of irregularities and afford greater protection to the natives.

2.   Thereis a temporary slight shortage of native labour arising from the fact that the German Companies anticipating expropriation had not been replacing time-expired labour by new men. Attention is, however, now being given to the remedying of this matter.
