Senator KEATING asked the Minister representing the Attorney-General, upon notice -

1.   Upon the argument before the High Court in the pending Executive reference to that Court of the question of the validity or otherwise of certain provisions of the Navigation Act, what other parties than the Commonwealth were represented by counsel?

2.   Were the Attorneys-General of the several States notified of the hearing as required by the Judiciary Act 1910?

3.   Did they or any of them signify their intention to appear or be represented or otherwise'!

4.   Was the reference made at the instance of any outside person or persons?

5.   If not at such instance, why was the reference not earlier made?

6.   Is this the first case of an Executive reference of a constitutional question to theHigh Court under the Judiciary Act 1910?
