Senator GARDINER (New South Wales) (Vice-President of the Executive 'Council) . - I have made a note of the honorable senator's suggestion, and I really think it is essential that there should be a definition of the term '' foreign company," assuming, of course, that in existing Acts there is not some definition of general application.

Clause 16 -

(1)   Every company shall have a registered office in each State or Territory in which it carries on insurance business, and shall have a representative in charge of each such office.

(2)   Notice in writing of the situation of the registered office and of the name of -the representative in charge thereof shall be lodged with the Commissioner for registration.

(3)   'Whenever any change takes place in the situation of the registered office, or in the name of the representative, a notice in writing of the change shall be lodged with the Commissioner.

(4)   Process in any legal proceedings in any Court against the company may be served by leaving it at the registered office of the company' in the State or Territory in which the process was issued.
