Senator RUSSELL (Victoria) (Assistant Minister) . -I am not prepared to say off-hand that I will give any instructions to the Land Tax Commissioner, because I understand that to do what the honorable senator desires would materially add to the labour and expense that are involved in securing land tax returns. Further, I think that statistics such as Senator Grant wishes to secure are already obtainable at the offices of the State Statisticians. Every property is valued for municipal purposes. However, if the honorable senator will give notice of a question relating to this matter, I will endeavour to obtain for him the fullest information from the Commonwealth Statistician. But I cannot undertake to issue instructions to the Land Tax Commissioner to secure it under the existing law.
