Senator KEATING asked the Minister of Defence, upon notice -

1.   Is it correct, as' stated in the Sydney press, that although recently some 700 French reservists from Noumea, on their way to the front, were or have been for several days' in Sydney, no official welcome or other courtesy was extended to them, nor was any official notice of their presence taken ?

2.   Has the Government official knowledge that a cordial reception was accorded to the New Zealand Contingent similarly passing through Noumea?

3.   Does the Government consider that neither duty nor advantage justifies reciprocating such friendly manifestations with our French allies?
