Senator GARDINER - The answers are -

1.   The automatic telephone exchange was opened for public use in Geelong on the 6tb July, 1912.

2.   Including Geelong, six automatic exchanges are now opened for public use in the Commonwealth. Particulars are as follow : -

 

 

3.   A report regarding the working of the Geelong Automatic Exchange will be laid upon the table of the House as desired. With respect to the other exchanges, the period of operation has not been sufficiently lengthy to admit of reliable reports of a formul nature to bc obtained, but in every case, apart from the slight defects and faulty methods of operating inseparable from the introducing of a new system, the service being given is satisfactory.
