Senator McGREGOR asked the Minister representing the Minister of Home Affairs, upon notice -

1.   Is the Teesdale Smith contract for earthworks on the Kalgoorlie to Port Augusta Railway yet completed?

2.   Is it a fact that the Government are employing a gang on day labour to complete the work; and, if so, will the wages of the men employed be charged against the contractor?

Senator McCOLL - The answers are -

1.   No.

2.   No, it is not a fact.

Senator McGREGOR - Arising out of the reply, is it not a fact that the work is being finished by the Department?

Senator McCOLL - The reply which I have here would seem to indicate that it is not a fact.
