Senator McCOLL - The Commonwealth Public Service Commissioner has furnished the following replies: -

1.   Thirty- seven.

2.   Pour thousand eight hundred and seventyfour.

3.   One thousand six hundred and twentyeight.

4.   The conditions of entrance into the Clerical Division are fixed by the Public Service Act, which prescribes that officers of the General Division must pass an examination of the same standard as that for candidates from outside the Service. All positions, from the lowest to the highest, in the Clerical Division of the Commonwealth Public Service are open to officers who enter that division, and in the interests of the Service the standard of education required from such officers should notbe lowered.
