Senator PEARCE - The answers to the honorable senator's questions are -

1.   Sixty-four petty officers and men were sent to England to bring out the destroyers.

2.   The cost per head over and above what it would have cost if these men had remainedin Australia is, approximately, ¬£25, including¬£15 passage money.

3.   Fifteen left- the service without completing the full term for which they engaged.

4.   Of the fifteen one was invalided, one discharged in England, three were dismissed ; the other ten were allowed to go at their own request, as they appeared to be dissatisfied with their prospects in the Australian service.
