Senator O'KEEFE (TASMANIA) asked the Minister representing the Postmaster-General, upon notice -

r.   Have any steps been taken to establish communication by wireless telegraphy between King Island and the mainland?

2.   Has any arrangement yet been made with the Government of Tasmania to establish telephone communication with Fort Davey?

Senator FINDLEY - The answers to the honorable senators's questions are -

1.   The establishment of a Commonwealth wireless station at King Island is awaiting consideration in connexion with the general question of wireless stations in the Commonwealth, which will be dealt with on the arrival of the new wireless telegraphy expert, who has just reached Fremantle.

2.   A verbal agreement in this matter was come to by the Premier of Tasmania and the Postmaster-General. The latter obtained the report he promised as to the route, and is prepared to carry out his part of the arrangement. The absence of the Premier of Tasmania in England is understood to have delayed definite action by the Tasmanian Government, which is being communicated with on the subject.
