Senator PEARCE (Western AustraliaMinister of Defence) . - The Government desire, if possible, to get this Bill through the Senate this session. A reference to the business-paper will show that we have yet to consider some highly contentious measures. If we do not avail ourselves of every opportunity to proceed with this Bill, we may find it blocking the way of other legislation. This is an unusually early hour for the Senate to adjourn, and a request for an adjournment at this hour is also unusual. The Government will be glad to hear what honorable senators have to say upon the clause, and, in the circumstances, I cannot accede to the honorable senator's request.
