Senator McCOLL (Victoria) .- I think that the Committee will act very inconsistently if it rejects the amendment, for many hours we fought the proposal to give 140 cubic feet of air space to an officer. That was a new provision allowing more space to an officer than is allowed in any other country. We ought at least to have as much consideration for those who find the money to work the ships as for those who work on them. Moreover, the passengers will all be in their berths at the one time; but only one-half of the officers and crew will be in their berths at a time. I shall certainly support the amendment.
