Senator ST LEDGER (Queensland) . - I should like to ask one or two questions in connexion with the vote for the Vancouver mail service. It forms, I suppose, a part of the subsidy payable under the existing contract, which will continue in operation until August of next vear. I should like to know if the Government are still in negotiation with the Governments of New Zealand and Canada with regard to a new mail service between Canada, New Zealand, and Australia? I suppose that the negotiations are not yet complete ; but, if they are, perhaps the Minister representing the PostmasterGeneral will be able to say whether it is the intention of the Government, in the new contract, to modify materially, or at all, the conditions as to the route to be followed by the vessels engaged in the service.
