Senator NEEDHAM (Western Australia) . - I think that Senator Guthrie has made out- a very good case for his amendment. If we leave out the words " a proportionate part of " the clause will still leave the wages " subject to all just deductions." Those words will meet every reasonable case. It is only fair that if a seaman is engaged for the run, and through no fault of his the vessel meets with disaster, he should receive the wages due to him, " subject to all just deductions." Senator Guthrie does not propose to eliminate those words. '
