Mr CALDER (Northern Territory) - I wish to make a few brief comments in support of the remarks of the Deputy Chairman of the Joint Select Committee on Aboriginal Land Rights in the Northern Territory. This Committee has done a lot of hard work and has travelled great distances to try to get to the bottom of the problem of doing the right thing by the traditional Aboriginal land owners. I hope that when the Committee is reconstituted when the Parliament meets again it will be not a select committee, but an ongoing committee. One report cannot serve the real interests of traditional Aboriginal owners. We should be there to assist them as time goes by. In future I would like to see such a committee having that interest rather than the Select Committee reporting in August and folding.
