Mr Les Johnson (HUGHES, NEW SOUTH WALES) asked the Minister for Environment, Housing and Community Development, upon notice:

(   1 ) What assistance has been given to Life Saving Clubs and organisations in each of the last 10 years.

(2)   What amounts have been given to individual clubs in each of the years 1971-72 to 1975-76.

(3)   What amounts will be paid to individual clubs in 1976-77.


Mr Newman - The answer to the honourable member's question is:

(1)   The following Commonwealth Government grants have been made available to the national Secretariats of the Surf Life Saving Association of Australia and the Royal Life Saving Society of Australia.

(2)   Commonwealth Government grants have not been made directly to individual clubs of the Royal Life Saving Society, but the following amounts have been made available to clubs, branches and State Centres of the Surf Life Saving Association from the grant to its national secretariat. 1971- 72- Nil 1972- 73- Nil

1974- 75-$144,000

1975- 76-$l44,000

(3)   $144,000 will be made available to individual clubs, branches and State Centres of the Surf Life Saving Association of Australia in 1976-77.
