Mr Snedden asked the Prime Minister, upon notice:

(1)   How many applications have been received by the Crafts Board of the Australian Council for the Arts from individual craftsmen for official assistance in the form of study grants or training grants.

(2)   What sum has been sought in each case, and what are the names of the individuals who have made applications.

(3)   When will the successful applicants be announced.

Mr Whitlam - The answer to the right honourable member's question is as follows:

(1)   There have been 134 applications for study grants, and 39 for training grants.

(2)   Forty-eight applicants have received the following grants.

Details of unsuccessful applications are regarded as confidential by the Board and it would not be appropriate to name those applicants who were not successful.

(3)   All applicants referred to in (2) have been notified. Sixty five applications are still being assessed and successful applicants will be notified as soon as practicable.
