Mr Snedden asked the Minister for Secondary Industry, upon notice:

(1)   Will he list the designers who have been given financial assistance. to attend the 8th World Design Congress in Japan together with their qualifications.

(2)   What is the average subsidy to be paid to the designers, and what costs will be subsidised.


Mr Enderby (Minister for Secondary Industry) - The answer to the right honourable member's question is as follows:

(1)   and (2) The Australian Council for the Arts provided $25,000 to the Industrial Design Council of Australia to help meet the $41,400 transportation cost of sending 46 designers and students to the International Council of Societies of Industrial Design's 8th General Assembly and Congress in Kyoto.

The average subsidy paid to designers was $400 per head and the subsidy paid to students was $750 per head with the exception that two students chose to intend sharing $750 and the Western Australian students received an additional $400 between them to assist in meeting fares from Perth to Melbourne.

The qualifications of the designers (as known to the Industrial Design Council of Australia) is attached.
