Mr Garland asked the Minister represent ing the Minister for Customs and Excise, upon notice:

(1)   Has the Minister's attention been drawn to the reply by the Minister for Services and Property to my question No. 174 (Hansard, 16 May 1973, page 2250), in which he suggested that details relating to occupancies by Commonwealth authorities in buildings not owned by the Commonwealth should be obtained from the Ministers concerned.

(2)   Will the Minister provide details, as set out in that question, of all places occupied by the Minister's Department and by authorities under the Minister's control in buildings not owned by the Commonwealth.

Mr Connor - The Minister for Customs and Excise has provided the following information in answer to the honourable member's question:

(1)   Yes.

(2)   The number of buildings not owned by the Commonwealth, in which the Department of Customs and Excise occupies space, in each State, are as follows:

Australian Capital Territory - 2. Floor area 7,100 square feet.

New South Wales- 6. Floor area 28,079 square feet.

Victoria - 1. Floor area 280 square feet.

Queensland - 3. Floor area 11,620 square feet

South Australia - 6. Floor area 9,992 square feet.

Western Australia- 2. Floor area 1,180 square feet.

Tasmania - Nil.

Northern Territory - 2. Floor area 740 square feet.

With the exception of one property in the Australian Capital Territory, leases for all premises occupied by the Department of Customs and Excise have been arranged by the Department of Services and Property. I note that my colleague, the Minister for Services and Property has already provided details of rental paid in each State for the leases arranged by his Department.

The one exception in the Australian Capital Territory is a building occupied by this Department for which there is no charge.
