Mr Mathews asked the Minister for Education, upon notice:

What was the date on which (a) the Report of the Nation-wide Survey of Educational Needs was first made available to the Australian Education Council, and (b) each authority participating in the Survey made public its section of the report.

Mr Beazley -The answer to the honourable member's question is as follows:

(a)   The Report on the Nation-wide Survey of Educational Needs was not a report that was made available to the Australian Education Council; it was a report published by the Australian Education Council, in September 1970. The material, supplied by the Commonwealth and the States, which was used in the preparation of the report was collected over a period of time ranging from March 1969 to May 1970.

(b)   The report published by the Australian Education Council did not have a separate section for each State. The Commonwealth and the States did, however, separately release their own reports on needs. The Commonwealth reports were released as follows:

Government Schools in the Australian Capital Territory-October 1971

Non-government schools throughout Australia -

October 1971

I understand that the dates on which the State Education Departments released their reports on government schools were as follows:

New South Wales-December 1972

Victoria -May 1972

Queensland -June 1971

South Australia -December 1970

Western Australia -March 1971

Tasmania -June 1971
