Mr Lynch (FLINDERS, VICTORIA) asked the Minister for Labour, upon notice:

(1)   What was the (a) number and (b) classification of employees in his Department as at 21 February 1973.

(2)   How many of them have been appointed since 4 December 1972 and for what purpose.

Mr Clyde Cameron (HINDMARSH, SOUTH AUSTRALIA) - In answering the honourable member's question, I have assumed that he is asking for information about employees in my Department, that is temporary and exempt staff, and not about officers who are permanent members of the Commonwealth Service. On this assumption I am advised that the information is as follows:

(1)   Total number of Temporary and Exempt Employees employed by the Department of Labour as at the end of February 1973.

(2)   Of that number 110 have been engaged since 4 December 1972. Seven are on my personal staff and the remainder have been employed to offset staff wastage within the Department.
