Mr STREET (CORANGAMITE, VICTORIA) - My question is addressed to the Minister for Social Security. Is it the Government's view, as stated last year by the honourable member for Maribyrnong - now the Minister for the Environment and Conservation - that private hospitals and nursing homes are irrelevant in the Australian Labor Party's health scheme?

Mr HAYDEN - Throughout the 3 years preceding the last election I consistently said - I repeat it now, and if the honourable member for Corangamite agrees to consider the report of the Health Insurance Planning Committee, he will find further confirmation of the view - that private hospitals and private nurs ing homes will have a role to fulfil in the health program that this Government will apply.
