Mr Lynch asked the Minister for the Environment and Conservation, upon notice:

(1)   Has he issued instructions to all Commonwealth departments and authorities specifying the detailed procedures to be adopted in the preparation of environment impact statements.

(2)   If so (a) on what date were the instruction! issued and (b) will he make the instructions public.

(3)   If not, what procedures are now being followed by departments and authorities in the preparation of environment impact statements.


Dr Cass (MARIBYRNONG, VICTORIA) (Minister for the Environment and Conservation) - The answer to the honourable member's question is as follows:

(1)   and (2) No. The detailed procedures to be adopted in the preparation of environment impact statements are still the subject of discussions between my Department and other Australian Government departments and authorities.

(3)   Details for particular statements in the interim period are arranged by consultation between the sponsoring department or authority and my Department
