Mr Garland asked the Minister representing the Attorney-General, upon notice:

(1)   Has the Attorney-General carried out any examination of the recommendations of the Manning Report into the operation of the Bills of Exchange Act and, in particular, the recommendation that the law relating to cheques be covered in a separate Cheques Act.

(2)   ff so, what was the outcome of the examination.


Mr Enderby - The Attorney-General has provided the following answer to the honourable member's question:

(l)   and (2) I have given some consideration to the recommendations contained in the report of the Manning Committee. The report is of a technical nature and will require further consideration before any conclusions can be reached. I have instructed that the consideration be expedited.
