Mr Lynch asked the Prime Minister, upon notice:

(1)   Has any Minister appointed a relative to his personal staff.

(2)   If so, which Ministers have done so and what is the relationship between the appointee and the Minister concerned in each case.

(3)   What were the appointee's (a) academic and (b) other qualifications for appointment in each case.


Mr Whitlam - The answer to the honourable member's question is as follows: (1), (2) and (3). I understand that some Ministers and at least one other office-holder in the present Parliament have employed relatives on their personal staffs. Such appointments are matters for the office holders.

What action is being taken to implement the recommendations and findings of the House of Representatives Select Committee on Wildlife Conservation.


Dr Cass (MARIBYRNONG, VICTORIA) (Minister for the Environment and Conservation) - The answer to the honourable member's question is as follows:

I have invited Commonwealth and State Ministers responsible for fauna conservation to a meeting in Melbourne on 9th March 1973. The recommendations of the House of Representatives Select Committee on Wildlife Conservation have been included on the agenda for this meeting.
