Mr Whitlam asked the Minister for Defence, upon notice:

(1)   What- was the (a) value and (b) general nature of the defence orders placed by Britain in Australia and processed by his .Department, in 1970-71.

(2)   Does he know the (a) value and (b) general nature of any defence orders placed direct, on industry in Australia by Britain in that year.


Mr Fairbairn - The answer to the honourable member's question is as follows: (la) The value of defence orders placed by Britain in Australia and processed by the Department of Supply in 1970-71 was $6.555m. (lb) Ikara, Jindvik and camera equipment.'
