Debate resumed from 7 May (vide page 1788), on motion by Mr Sinclair:

That the Bill be now read a second time.

Mr Crean - Before we proceed with the debate on this Bill may I ask the Leader of the House, just as a matter of interest, for how long he proposes, to keep the House sitting tonight and what he proposes to do tomorrow, at least in the afternoon? We were here until 3.30 this morning and there is still a vast amount of business on the blue sheet for today. There will still remain some business uncompleted tomorrow. I think in fairness to us the Minister should perhaps indicate how late he intends that we should sit tonight and what business should be completed, whether he expects the business to be completed at 4 o'clock tomorrow or whether the House will have to continue beyond 4 o'clock. Because of transport and other arrangements we should be told.

Mr Snedden - I am quite happy to answer the honourable gentleman, Mr Deputy Speaker, but what is the matter before the Chair at the moment?
