Dr PATTERSON (Dawson) (3:30 AM) - It was my intention to move an amendment to clause 18, inserting the word Parliament' instead of 'Governor-General'. The Opposition believes that the Parliament should decide the level of salaries and allowances. However, 1 am informed that if the amendment were accepted it would mean that the salaries of members of the Australian Wool Board, for example, would cease until the next budget. There is no alternative under those circumstances but to withdraw the amendment.
