Mr Berinson (PERTH, WESTERN AUSTRALIA) asked the Minister for Health, upon notice:

(1)   Ishe able to say how many doctors are members of the (a) Australian Medical Association and (b) Society of General Practitioners.

(2)   If so, can he say how many members of the Australian Medical Association are (a) specialists and (b) general practitioners.


Dr Forbes - The answer to the honourable member's question is as follows:

While I have no specific figures in relation to these questions,I am informed that: (1)(a) Thereare approximately 14,000 members of the Australian Medical Association.

(b)   The Society of General Practitioners claims to have a membership of approximately 1000.

(2)   The break-up requested' by the honourable member cannot be provided.
