Dr FORBES (BARKER, SOUTH AUSTRALIA) (Minister for Health) - No. it is not a fact that no Commonwealth funds are made available for research into multiple sclerosis. Practically all the money that the Commonwealth makes available for medical research is made available through the National Health and Medical Research Council. The sum of money that is made available has increased substantially in recent years. In the past, and currently, grants have been and are being made for the broad field which covers the disease which the honourable member mentioned. J share with him a great deal of sympathy for the sufferers from this disease, and I am very glad to be able to inform him that the

Commonwealth is making a contribution towards what I hope will be the ultimate solution.
