Mr WHITLAM (WERRIWA, NEW SOUTH WALES) asked the Minister for Immigration, upon notice:

How many of th; persons enumerated by his predecessor on 13th August 1969 (Hansard, page 244) and by himself on 19th March 1970 (Hansard, page 721 J as having (a) applied and (b) been approved for entry from Southern Rhodesia travelled on a Southern Rhodesian passport or on a purported passport issued by or on behalf of the illegal regime in Southern Rhodesia.


Mr Lynch - The answer to the honourable member's question is as follows:

(a)   Of the total number of 543 applicants to the end of February 1970, 85 were included on Rhodesian passports.

(b)   Of the 193 persons approved for visits, 28 travelled on Rhodesian passports and of the 234 persons approved for residence 54 travelled on Rhodesian passports.
