Mr STEWART (LANG, NEW SOUTH WALES) - My question is directed to the Minister for Labour and National Service. Is he aware of the constant complaints being voiced by State Premiers, parents and citizens organisations, the Teachers' Federation of New South Wales and many individuals in the community regarding the shortage of teachers in State schools? Does he believe that there is any basis for these complaints? If so, why is it that no provision has been made for the deferment of the national service training of school teachers who have been unlucky enough to win a national serviceman's uniform? Will he also explain the conditions under which a deferment of training is granted by a court of summary jurisdiction and what constitutes exceptional hardship?
