Mr Whitlam m asked the Prime Minister, upon notice -

1.   What communications have passed between the British and Australian Governments concerning the application o£ the 1960 International Regulations for Preventing Collisions at Sea to and by the Australian States?

2.   What were the relevant dates?

Mr Harold Holt - The answer to the honorable member's question is as follows -

Two letters have been received from the British Government in this connection. The first, dated 12th August 1965, advised that an Order in Council has been made in pursuance of section 418 of the Merchant Shipping Act. The second, dated 24th August 1965, forwarded a copy of an Order in Council, 1965 No. 1525 made in pursuance of sections 4! 8. 424 and 738.
