Mr Cross (BRISBANE. QLD) s asked the Minister for the Interior, upon notice -

1.   What Commonwealth departments and instrumentalities are occupying rented premises in Brisbane and what are the annual rentals involved?

2.   When does he anticipate that his own department will be able to move back into Commonwealthowned premises?

3.   Are plans in the course of preparation for extensions to the Commonwealth Offices in Adelaide Street?

4.   When does he anticipate that construction will commence?


Mr Anthony - The answers to the honorable member's questions are as follows -

1.   Departments and instrumentalities occupying rented premises in Brisbane as of 31st January 1966 and the annual rentals payable are -

 

2.   On completion of the proposed extensions to the Commonwealth Offices adjacent to Anzac Square, which on present expectations will be about the end of 1970.

3.   The Department of Works is preparing sketch plans for submission to the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Public Works later this year.

4.   Subject to endorsement by the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Public Works and to the normal programming arrangements, it is presently anticipated that it will be possible to call tenders by mid-1967, and that construction could be commenced towards the end of 1967 or early in 1968.
