Mr SPEAKER - Is leave granted?

Opposition members. - No.


Mr SPEAKER - Leave is not granted.


Mr Calwell - Why should not the honorable member have leave?


Mr Harold Holt - Opposition members have refused leave.


Mr Wentworth - Mr. Speaker, may I have leave?


Mr SPEAKER - Order! Leave has already been refused.


Mr Calwell - We withdraw the refusal.


Mr Bryant - On a point of order, Mr. Speaker, if the honorable member asks for leave again can it be granted?


Mr SPEAKER - Order! There is no substance in the point of order, as the honorable member should know.


Mr Wentworth - Mr. Speaker, I ask for leave to make a statement not exceeding three minutes.


Mr SPEAKER - Order! Let us keep this matter in order. When the honorable member sought leave there was a very loud chorous of " Noes ". Is the chair to ignore that?


Mr Calwell - No, Mr. Speaker.


Mr SPEAKER - The honorable member for Mackellar may resubmit his request.


Mr Wentworth - I ask for leave to make a statement not exceeding three minutes on this subject.


Mr SPEAKER - Is leave granted? There being no objection, leave is granted.
