Mr Daly y asked the Minister for Social Services, upon notice -

What is the (a) number and (b) percentage of age and invalid pensioners who have no income other than their pension?

Mr Sinclair (NEW ENGLAND, NEW SOUTH WALES) (Minister for Social Services) - The answer to the honorable member's question is as follows -

(a)   and (b) Precise figures are not available but based on information obtained in one State recently, it is estimated that 70 per cent, of age and invalid pensioners have no income other than their pension. This estimate relates only to income as defined for pension purposes and takes no account of other forms of income (e.g. income from property) which are exempt under the means test.
