Mr Beaton n asked the Minister representing the Minister for Customs and Excise, upon notice -

1.   What quantity of oil and oil products was used in Australia in each of the last five years?

2.   What was the cost to Australia of oil and oil products imported in those years?

3.   What percentage of total imports did these imports represent?

4.   What (a) quantity and (b) value of the oil and oil products was re-exported?

5.   What is the estimated cost of freight and other costs charged against Australian importers in respect of imported oil and oil products in each of the years mentioned?


Mr Fairhall - The Minister for Customs and Excise has furnished the following answers to the honorable member's questions - ]. The input of crude oil and other refinery feedstock to Australian refineries during the fiscal years 1960-61 to 1964-65 inclusive was as follows -

 

Schedule I attached shows consumption figures for petroleum products in the fiscal years 1960-61 to 1964-65 inclusive.

2.   The f.o.b. value of imports of crude oil and other refinery feedstock and refined products in each of the fiscal years 1960-61 to 1964-65 was as follows -

 

3.   The f.o.b. value of petroleum imports expressed as a percentage of the f.o.b. value of total imports into Australia over the last five fiscal years was -

 

4.   The quantity and value of petroleum products re-exported from Australia in each of the fiscal years 1960-61 to 1963-64 was as follows -

Information in respect of re-exports of petroleum in the fiscal year 1964-6S is not as yet available.

5.   Complete details in respect of freight and other costs charged to importers of petroleum into Australia are noi available.

However, the total freight charges on imports of petroleum into Australia over the past five fiscal years have been estimated as follows -
